With the weather and later the onset of the pandemic, she hasn’t been done by me since November of last year.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Not bad at all, just general grime.

But I set about the wheels first, then a pre-wash snow foam, went round the nooks and crannies with a brush and degreaser, rinsed, snow foamed with car shampoo and 2BM washed the car, rinsed and let dry. It was a lovely cool day and she dried with no water spots, yay, while I had a coffee.

Set about polishing some scratches here and there around the body work. Applied a sealant and attacked the rest of the car with glass cleaner, compressed air, vacuum, fabric shampoo and wet vac for the driver’s mat, etc...

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Light polish of the exhaust tips.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Finished look.

Talk about a mirror shine. That is fantastic! You can barely tell where the car ends and the driveway begins.

Great job. The paint cleaned up so well too. The car itself is somewhat interesting for us Americans too. A manual diesel Volvo hatchback is a little too weird to sell well here.

Lol. You’d get bored of me quickly. Always knocking on your door for the car keys, (yep, people re ally do just hand over their car keys to me, no questions asked), so even if I was doing an exterior wash, it could get the door shuts done.

I hate dirty door and boot shuts.

I would love love love a step by step, super long post, about all the gear, chemicals, and steps you take to clean the car. My one bucket with autozone soap and cheap spunges sort of a cleanup job need improvement.

She had a little battle damage from the odd bush or close passing pedestrian, but other than that, just a relaxing three and a half hours.

I like good clean door and boot shuts and sills.

Woah, you knocked out that clean much faster than I expected.

It drives me crazy when I see sills that look like they may never have been cleaned. It makes such an enormous difference in how clean the car feels even if only subconsciously . Fuel filler doors are also easily overlooked.

Get yourself another bucket, ditch the sponge, especially if it’s an open-cell sponge (I’m cringing, hoping it’s not), a good shampoo and some good 300-400gsm microfibres.

I did something of a thing I guess a couple of years ago, running through some things and items.

I especially hate it when there is clean patches, where people have dragged their feet into the car, often the occupant having dirty patches on their trouser legs.

It was just letting the products do the work.

Half an hour of that was having a coffee and a chin wag with my friend.

Yeah it just looks sloppy and bad.

My parents drove my car up yesterday to hand me some supplies I left at home (I’ve been away at college) and it has gotten really dirty sitting outside in the grass. Makes me a little sad. The sills were still ok given the amount of rain we’ve had though.

I love how Volvo still uses parts that are obviously from when they were owned by Ford.

Why don’t they sell cool stuff like this in the US?

I need to find someone close to me with as much attention to detail as you. I also need to find someone who can correct the awful swirls someone left all over the car. It’s bad. And I’d love an interior steam clean. And tinted windows and a tune. If I’m going to dream, I may as well dream big.

I guess if it ain’t broke, why change, saves time and money really.

In the U.K. we don’t get all the options of some cars that the European mainland (LHD community) gets but we do get some nice stuff I guess.

As regards the cool stuff and North America, well, that’s a long discussion of many things, cost, politics, unions, global trade, protectionism, etc...

I mean, the 25 year rule, that should of gone ages ago so even if the manufacturer doesn’t sell that model in your country, you could buy and import it, get it inspected, get it registered, pay the appropriate taxes and away you go (like we do here in the U.K).

Here, you want a Corvette C8 Stingray, buy it, import it, get it inspected, stick a rear foglight on it, get the emissions done to find out what tax band you’ll be on for car tax (vehicle excise duty) each year, get it registered and boom

Kinja'd!!!

Want to buy a Dodge Ram, go for it, as above.

I’m a total idiot when it comes to this stuff. I’ve read the old post before, and it’s enough to make me screw up royally. Some of the stuff that just makes sense to you sounds like Chinese to me.

I think I need to budget a few hundred bucks, and watch some start-to-finish type videos on you tube.

Thanks!

For me it’s personal therapy. Blocking out the outside world for a few hours and having something to show for it, it’s just a bonus, it makes others so happy to see their car looking at the best I can get it for them.

If you watch a couple of Larry and Ammo NYC vide os, you’ll get a good tutorial on what to do.

I’ m always here if you need anything, etc...

I enjoy talking about car cleaning as much as I enjoy doing it.

And when I take time off work to show people how to care for their car, that’s just amazing for me.

But just take your time with it, rush it, you’ll spend loads of money, much of it wasted, you’ll get disheartened and that’ll be it.

So just take your time, ask questions, try a few products and find where it is you want to be with car cleaning.

I’m quite controlled on my products and purchases but still have this lot to lug around.

I n the States the smallest numeric they have is T4 and they generally have been based on the number of cylinders, so D2 sounds piddly

I don’t know if there is anyone else on the planet who does a better detailing job than you. There may be. But I’m sure that no one takes as much joy in doing it. That’s a wonderful thing. You bring smiles to others by sharing.

How do you feel about using a pressure washer on a car?

Fine, good. Best thing really. Let the water and products do the work.

A lot of damage is done to the cars paint when washing, so minimal physical contact is the best method for not inflicting swirls, micromarring, scratches, etc...

In fact I had to tidy up an old bird bomb that had been left too long on the roof and had etched into the clearcote. The owner had tried to later remove it with a cloth and removed the bird bomb, but left behind a dull patch around the etching, because she had rubbed it to aggressively and with birds eating small stones to make harder egg shells, she had rubbed fine grit into the paint.

Now if she had removed it closer to when it was done, say within two day, that would of done less damage, or if she had soaked the dried bi rd bomb is quick detailer to hydrate and soften the bird bomb, she could of easily wiped it off safely.

But I can’t fault her, most people care far far less about their cars and wouldn’t of cared about the damage. She really berated herself for what she did, but it’s one of those things and what I’m there to do.

Lol. But I’m confused. Why is he carrying a bucket of water, dragging a hose pipe and a hose and lance for a pressure washer.

Not to mention, th at (single) bucket is too small, also seems like a ‘dirtblaster’ attachment for the pressure washer, not a good idea for cleaning a car.
